The world‘s first micro-LED smart watches will be on the market next year

According to DIGITIMES, RiTdisplay, the manufacturer of PMOLED panel, expects that the first micro-LED smart watches manufactured with micro-LED display module will be put on the market in 2020.

One of RiTdisplay‘s American customers will launch the design process of a 1.25-inch micro-LED smart watch in the third quarter, based on a 1.25-inch micro-LED module developed by RiTdisplay and its strategic partner Play Nitride.

Samples of micro-LED smart watches are expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2019, paving the way for the rapid mass production of micro-LED modules in RiTdisplay, the source added.

Although the company is conservative about the business outlook of the display industry in the context of market fluctuations, it expects that its performance will improve in the second half of 2019, driven by the peak season effect.

In the first quarter of 2019, RiTdisplay‘s revenue fell 10.1% to NT$500 million, and its net profit fell 60% to NT$29 million or NT$0.42 per share. Earnings since the beginning of the year have reached NT$761 million, down 22.3% from the same period last year.
